Hey mate, although there won't be an ICS firmware for the GT-i9000 you could update it too the latest 2.3.6. Here is how to do it if interested.
At the moment the Firmware update that is built into the phone isn't currently working, we are hoping that they fix this in a later update, but what I reccomend doing is to go to:and download the latest firmware that is there (2.3.6). March 14, 2012 at 14:03I have Samsung galaxy s GT I 9000; firm ware: 2.3.4; base band ver.: I9000 XXJVR; build no. Gingerbread xxjvr;kernel ver 2.6.35.7 – I9000 xxjvr – ch 425308 se.
Infra@ SEP – 63# 2I experienced force close issue so I applied the recovery mode and followed the procedure and reboot the device.I then realised that there was an update ready on the Samsung Kies so I clicked update. The information on the Kiesindicated that the firmware ver is PDA: JVR / PHONE: JVR / CSC: JVR( SWC ). However on the phone itself the informationsays: firmware ver. 2.3.4 and baseband ver. I9000xxjvrWhat I have noticed is that if I UNINSTALL applications like “WhatsApp, Skype and Bible” and put the device off, then next day when I switch on those applications are re-installed. Also if I copy music on to the device next day when I switch on, the music is deleted.
Force issue still persist on skype, whatsapp, bible and avg. Please advise. Thanks in advance,Kwasi. Can I update my phone with this 2.3.6 XXKPQ firmware without risk of harming the phone2. I have used all the recommended back up application to back up contacts, music/pics/video, applications etc to my SD card. If I wipe data/factory reset the phone as is ‘recommended’ above, by simply recovering the backed up data to the phone reinstall my applications and such? Do I even have to perform a factory reset/wipe data command?3. Can I apply the semaphore upgrade to this phone as well once I have installed the gingerbread update mentioned in point 1 above? Thanks for your help on this matter and I look forward to your reply.Kyril.
Hi Neela,I’got two question if allowed 🙂1. QuestionI upgrade a few days ago to xxJVU from your post. My device was fast as never before. Then next day I rooted according your post again with CMW (CF-Root-XXOXAJVU2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS). Also wihtout problems.
But I realized that the Gallery opens up very slow or even hangs which was not the case before rootins. Is it possible that the tweaks has caused such behavior? I tryed to disable all tweaks but nothing changed.2.

Hi Neela,I’ve got 2 questions if allowed 🙂1. Question,I’ve upgraded to xxJVU. Worked fine, fast perfect. Next day I rooted with CWM (CF-Root-XXOXAJVU2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS) from your post. But then I realized that the Gallery “hangs” sometimes when first started. Or it takes huge time to update thumbs like 30 seconds.

I disabled ALL tweaks in CWM but no success. Is it possible that CWM tweaks have been the reason for that?2. QuestionI need to restore just only some application from my previous CWM Backup. How can I do that? Thanks in advanceCem.
