Rejoice all ye men and women alike for our lord and savior Jesus. I mean Kaworu, has died for our sins! And especially yours Shinji. This is a magnificent episode. Though quick paced it managed to build a new character without feeling rushed. Kaworu comes off as unnerving yet comforting and most of all kind.
That they managed to make a character of such impact and popularity in 24 mins is impressive. It seems all characters save Shinji have found their positions before the finale, each one broken down to the point they can go no lower. Asuka chooses to end her life in a blown out apartments bathtub. She’s found emaciated in a pool of rust coloured water(perhaps blood, indicating a suicide attempt) clearly waiting to die. Thankfully she’s recovered by Nerv but her sad story is at an end for now.
Misato is throwing herself into her job. How she’s is able to continue to function in her role is impressive given the total destruction of her inner self in the last few episodes. She’s still using Hyuga to investigate for her. He undertakes the task primarily due to his unrequited love for her. She understands this but still uses him and he understands this and still seeks to help.
Just another little bit of sorrow in the fabric of NGE. Ritsuko, understandably bitter and derisive, is incarcerated. Rei II is dead and Rei III is confused and aimless. With all the other players put aside it’s Shinji’s time in the spotlight. And Shinji has apparently run away once more because why not? Everything has fallen apart; Asuka is gone, Rei is terrifying, Misato is too distant now to help and his friends have all left. He’s alone, desperately alone. But then Kaworu, like an angel from heaven;) comes to his rescue.

They bond quickly and closely. Shinji spills his soul to Kaworu who requires nothing in return. Kaworu represents the total and unconditional love that Shinji always desired but was always unobtainable. But to Shinji’s horror Misato’s fears are proved correct as Kaworu, to the incomparable sound of Beethoven’s 9th symphony’s 4th movement, descends to Terminal Dogma. He is the last angle, the most powerful of all and Shinji is the only one who can stop him. Shinji doesn’t believe it at first, won’t believe it but his shock is overcome with rage at the betrayal of his feelings. He opened his heart, something he’s never truly done and Kaworu stamped on it. As Shinji fights the possessed Unit-02 Kaworu explains much such as what AT fields are but to Shinji it’s meaningless, his rage and misery prevent him from understanding.
Finally after confronting Lilith there in Terminal Dogma Kaworu asks to die for if he lives mankind will die. It is a cruel thing to put upon Shinji and he is distraught. The fate of the only person who ever showed him unconditional love and the fate of humanity rests in Unit-01’s hand, his hand, the hand that has always been a symbol of his action/inaction.At the last by the lake Shinji wishes he could have died instead, thinks he deserved to die instead, thinks that he is wicked and Kaworu was good.
Misato can’t help him here. She doesn’t understand, can’t reach out to him and her inability to do so does terrible damage. Shinji is broken, finally and completely. He was offered through Kaworu that which he always wanted, unconditional love but even that I feel would not save him.
Kaworu’s love isn’t real, or rather it isn’t human. It is the love of a god to whom we can offer nothing but loves us despite this. Humans are not as gods however and our love is not infinite nor is it unconditional. Love comes with pain and suffering, the possibility of unhappiness, all things Shinji is unwilling to accept. He was still running, he never stopped really.Either way Kaworu is dead, killed by Shinji's own hand. His own hand killed the last chance of happiness he though there was for himself. So this is the end folks.
Strap in ladies and gentlemen cause where we’re going there ain’t no roads. Episode 24So, how can they continue the story after all that happened in last episode? I mean, they pretty much have to reveal what the fuck is Gendo's plan at this point.Nope.Asuka totally break down. She's in a tub without water, in a destroyed house. She dissappeared for 7 days, she actually run away.Shinji understands about Rei and her mother. Ritsuko is also depressed, but is not like Gendo really cares about her.
The only thing he asks her is why she destroyed the dummy system. And then, on december the 24th (, Nagisa Kaworu appears humming the Ninth of Beethoven. Which is a song used a lot for christmas in Japan.Kaworu can somehow synchronyze with EVA 02, even with the same core Asuka used. The relationship between Kaworu and Shinji that develops in only one episode is probably the most famous in the anime.
Kaworu is really direct in trying to get close (like, really close) to Shinji. He actually tells he loves him.Rei suspects of Kaworu of being someone like him.NO, PEN-PEN:( Poor Misato, having to let go of her pet.Kaworu actually talks to SEELE. He's kind of a double agent, working for the old guys.
Kaworu is an Adam's vessel, so SEELE wants to combine him with Lillith to cause the Third Impact. According to Liliin's plan.Beethoven's Ninth (The Ode of Joy) gives this scene all the more power.
Kaworu is an Angel, of course, and he's going to Central Dogma where Lillith is with the Unit 02.Kaworu explains to Shinji that the EVAs are created from Adam, the same as him. He has an AT field, if you needed any confirmation for him being an Angel.Misato wants to self destruct the place if everything goes to worst, and Hyuga seems to agree. Both EVAs and Kaworu get to central dogma. Another AT field appears but we don't see another Angel. We instead see Rei. Kaworu finds Lillith underground, not Adam.
So he gives Shinji the decission to kill him, to avoid the annihilation of everyone. He gives Shinji the decission to live.
And then we have the scene that everyone who watched the anime for the first time thought his video has freeze. Unit 01 holds Kaworu in his hand for a long time, before finally crush him.Shinji loved him, if only because he showed love to him. He had to kill Kaworu, the only person to tell him that he loves him.

Meanwhile, be patient. So, the beginning of it all.
The main theme of Neon Genesis Evangelion, time and time again and throughout the series, is the question ' Why?' As in, 'Why do Man do what they do?' The deep question of this opening episode is that of responsibility. Why should Shinji pilot the EVA machine, something that he has never heard of or seen before that moment? Does he have a 'responsibility,' simply because he 'can'?. Shinji first starts claiming, 'I can't do it.'
He then changes to, 'Why should I? I have nothing to do with it.' Humans also give these reasons a lot in real life.
'I can't do it.' 'I don't have the qualifications.' 'It is not my work.' 'It is not my responsibility.' 'It is somebody else's work, and somebody else should do it.' 'I didn't make this mess and I don't have anything to do with it.'
' I did not ask to do this.' Cumulating to the ultimate, 'I did not ask to be born in the first place.' . Does the fact that Shinji has the ' capability' to do the work (while others don't) imply or even demand that he then has the ' responsibility' to carry it out? Where is free will, when a person can be criticized by exercising his will not to do something that isn't his responsibility in the first place?According to Kabbalist ideas, some responsibilities are actually part of the Great Work. The Kabbalah believes that the world (created by God) is created imperfect, and God needs humans to help make it perfect again. As such, humans are almost born with a sense of 'original responsibility' (as opposed to Original Sin).Ikari Gendo, Shinji's father, seems to subscribe to a simpler view - that Man is defined by his 'actions', not anything else.
(See ). In this episode, Shinji finds a temporary answer in a bandaged-up little girl (notice especially his need to remind himself, 'I mustn't run away.' Needless to say, this answer is so skin-deep and simplistic that it will not survive the.
Throughout the series, Shinji will keep asking himself, and everybody else around him, the same question, 'Why?' He will keep finding answer after answer, and rejecting these answers almost as quickly as he finds them. There are some who conjectures that it is Director Anno who is saying, 'I mustn't run away.' After escaping the world for several years, he came back to produce this series. Does Anno believe he has a responsibility as well? This will actually be probed to death in the. The second big question in Evangelion is ' What?' , as in 'What is Life,' 'What is Death,' 'What is Man,' 'What is God,' 'What is Human,' 'What is Machine,' 'What is a Soul,' 'What is Loneliness,' 'What should be,' 'What shouldn't be.'
. Notice that Angels are actually called 'Shi-to' in Japanese, literally meaning a 'disciple' or 'messenger' of God. If Angels are messengers of God, then what 'message' are they bringing?. Notice the cross-shaped explosions. Those are meant to be a cue that this series has religious overtones (and a lot of them). For instance, if you observe closely, the NERV (German for 'nerve') logo is a fig fruit (with a fig leaf on top), and the tag line below reads 'God's In His Heaven, All's Right With the World' - a quote from the poet Robert Browning (1812-1889), but sort of taken out of context.
The original is Browning's lovely poem Pippa's Song:The year's at the spring,And days's at the morn;Morning's at seven; The hillside's dew-pearl'd;The lark's on the wing; The snail's on the thorn;God's in His heaven -All's right with the world!. Browning's Pippa's Song has been quoted and attacked by countless preachers, most of whom have never read the complete poem. Actually, Pippa was an impoverished and exploited orphan girl slaving in a silk mill under horrible working hours and conditions.
